Va Va Voom for Refurbished Volvo
Here at breakdownvehicles.com we've been busy with another recovery vehicle remount and refurbishment. Here's what we did to ensure our customer got the vehicle that was right for them.
We located and purchased a heavy duty 7.5 tonne slidebed with power out low approach ramps, a 2 tonne rear vehicle lift and a 12,000lb winch from a cab damaged vehicle. We carried out some modifications, refurbished the vehicle and did a full repaint. Step 2
We located an 18 ton Volvo FE sleeper cab demount on full air suspension with a 8.5 tonne front axle as the chassis for the equipment. The vehicle had a full Volvo service history. We took the chassis into the workshop, fitted a PTO and pump, repainted the cab and chassis and then fitted beacons, strobes and worklights. Step 3
Finally we faced the challenge of getting a truck mounted crane. The spec was for a used crane and we sourced a Cormach 28,000-E4 in good working order. This crane is rated at 28 tonne/metre with 4 extensions taking the reach to 11 metres. There was very little refurbishment to be done on the crane other than some minor piping and a total repaint. We then fitted this to the chassis after making a subframe to suit.
This is where we put everything together by remounting the slidebed, painting and fitting 4 new lockers, mounting dusty bins for spillage wage. We also added a tow bracket, a cone carrier, foot pad carrier, chain box and outline markers. We got Right Signs to do the sticker worker and then we watched proudly as the vehicle went out the door.
The end result was a great vehicle, tailor made to the client specifications using refurbished equipment which meant it was also very good value too. This was a great team project with fantastic contributions from Graham, Kenny, Paul and of course me.
